COGNITIVE PRODUCTS
Just like cognitive decline in elderly people, there is no “one size fits all approach”. but research has shown that the best approach is a combination of these things:
- Daily walks
- Cognitive diets (Neurocare from Purina, b/d from Science Diet)
- MCT supplementation
- Selegiline (a prescription medication that helps with cognitive function)
- Fish oils as per this chart: https://vetmedbiosci.colostate.edu/vth/services/orthopedic-medicine/fish-oil-dosing/
- B Vitamins
- Melatonin
- Sensory stimulations — daily brushing, touching and balance exercises
- For obese dogs, caloric restriction has also been shown to help
